Earthly adoption is, without a doubt, costly. When fees for agencies, courts, lawyers, governments, and travel are factored in, ado
ptions can run well into the $20-40,000 range, presenting a huge obstacle for many families. In addition to these financial aspects, there are often sacrifices of time, privacy, and prior dreams or expectations made by families throughout the adoption process. Yet these costs, great as they may be, pale exceedingly in light of the sacrifice Christ made to adopt us. Stop a moment and consider the poignant, heart-piercing description of Philippians 2:6-8:
Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
To adopt us, Jesus Christ was willing to humble himself to the lowest degree and hang bloody on a cross. Who can fathom this depth of sacrifice God made to bring us home? Any emotional, physical, or material costs, then, that we incur from investing in an earthly orphan’s life or bringing children into our homes through adoption are only a very faint reflection of the ultimate price that was paid for our spiritual adoption.

Wow, Annie. That was beautiful! You are so right...you speak with a wisdom and knowledge that only comes from experience OR the Divine revelation of the King...and since we both know you don't have any little ones of your own yet, I'm thinking He has given you an intimate and unique window into the hearts and minds of adopted parents. I love your heart and we are so thankful to share your dreams, heartaches, and hopes for the fatherless with you!
