Mirror Images: Part Six

6. Adoption is for God’s ultimate glory

Adoption is directed to God, “for from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen” (Romans 11:36). As the very designer and exemplar of adoption as well as the power behind any of our attempts to be His hands and feet to earthly orphans, God alone deserves all the credit for any successes or fruits in adoption. He is the object of all praise and worship when an orphaned soul becomes grafted into His family through His atoning work on the cross. Similarly, we glory in Christ alone when a little person is rescued from loneliness and despair on earth and welcomed into a loving family, knowing that it was God who orchestrated all the details and circumstances to bring them together.

In closing this series, I would like to encourage you to consider making the vertical love shown you on Calvary a horizontal reality in the lives of earthly orphans around you. As servants of Christ, members of a church fellowship, and potential parents someday, prayerfully contemplate how you might build orphan care into your arena of ministry right now and/or your vision for the future, whether that might be through adoption, work in an orphanage, financial support, or simply as a faithful prayer warrior. May we be individuals who reach out and establish in our homes, churches, and communities a culture of adoption that practically models to the world the Gospel of Christ, with the ultimate goal that both onlookers and the children we serve may be grafted into our spiritual family as fellow children of God. And may we press on to the day when, as 1 Corinthians 13:12 promises, what we see in a mirror dimly and know in part now will someday be revealed to us fully and face-to-face by our almighty, adoptive Abba Father.

Hi Annie....I just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed your mini series of posts on adoption. I appreciate your heart for adoption and just from what I have read, I see it as a passion the Lord has placed in your soul. As the mom of 3 adopted blessings, it would be a joy to sit with you sometime and hear more of your vision for what the Lord is working in your sweet life, even now, towards adoption.
Love, Chessa

Hi Chessa!
I'm so honored and humbled that you found and read my blog! Seeing your sweet family and others has been the inspiration behind much of this, so know that God has used your witness as an adoptive family to speak to my heart and further this passion He has planted in me for helping the least of these. I LOVE to talk about all things adoption and orphan care, so it would be fun to have a chat with you too sometime!
Blessings!

You BOTH make me want to cry. I can't think of two sweeter people caring about something so close to God's heart. Chessa, your family IS an example of God's love and grace and redemptive power. Annie, I am so excited to see how God uses the passion He has given you to further His kingdom!!

Love you two!!
