Random (or not so random) Musings
I was sitting down before bed a few nights ago, randomly pondering the parallels between earthly adoption and heavenly adoption, and the following idea struck me. It's certainly nothing earth-shattering and I'm sure it's been discovered by others before me, but I came across the thought that we as Christians now are like my little sponsor girl Taylor was several weeks ago, when she was told that she had a Mommy waiting to come adopt her soon. Like her, we have been "matched" with a family, so to speak, but are awaiting the final step in the process when we will be united with our Heavenly Father forever, a day known in earthly adoption circles as "Gotcha Day." All the paperwork has been signed in Jesus' blood and we are fully, completely children of God, though we are still waiting to be taken forever to our home in Christ's heavenly kingdom. When Taylor first got the news that she had been adopted, she was already loved and cherished by her new mother, just as we are already loved by God. We are expected to be preparing ourselves well to enter this new family and conducting ourselves according to the standards of our new home while we wait. This thought gave me such hope and expectation of the glorious future awaiting those of us who have repented of our sins and been nudged by God to accept His salvation and justification. As Steven Curtis Chapman reminds us in his song Children of God, we are the "treasured and the prized," the "ones who bear His name," the "children He has claimed as His," and those whom God has come for and called his own. Let us live now as the beloved children of God that we are and eagerly look forward to our own "Gotcha Day," when we will be united with Christ and the family of God forever and ever in Heaven. We are His!

Annie,
A pastor friend and I were just talking this morning about the parallels between God adopting us and earthly adoption. Our musings were very simiilar to yours. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Aunt Alison
"In love, He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will---" Ephesians 1:5
While His will for Margaret's adoption into a "forever family" is waiting to be carried out, He has blessed her with you, Annie. Does she have a picture of you?
Love, Nana
Annie, that was beautiful! And though I've often thought of parallels between earthly adoption and our adoption as children of God, I've never thought of this one in particular. That is so neat...waiting to go to our permanent home with Christ. Thank you for writing this!
