It's a Beautiful Day at Bethany...

In addition to seeing SCC live last weekend (which was, as always, INCREDIBLE), I had the opportunity to volunteer at a local office of Bethany Christian Services with my grandma, who was up visiting from California. We did all the little tasks to help them get ready for their auction fundraiser the next day: stuffing envelopes, stapling packets, organizing bid numbers, and making name cards for all the auction items. The tasks, though seemingly menial, were a great blessing to the staff, and I was personally so encouraged knowing that all the little things my grandma and I did contributed much to the greater cause of raising funds for adoption. The director told us that their office raised nearly $80,000 through last year's auction, and I pray their success this year matched or exceeded that figure. Oh what a blessing to know that all that money is going to help Christian families bring needy children into their homes!

The volunteer experience at Bethany also helped to confirm and shape many of my career plans for the future. I would encourage any of you who are interested in future adoption or orphan care work to find a local agency or ministry and "live" in it for a day. I learned so much about the field from the Bethany staff, and was so inspired by their example. They truly have a heart for orphans and it is beautiful to see!

I'd also encourage you to find a friend or family member to share a volunteer experience with sometime. My grandma and I shared so much the day we were working at Bethany, and it was so neat to unite and bond over our stapling and folding jobs. A shared experience is always more fun and meaningful than doing it alone!

That's so cool that you got an opportunity like that! You will be a great adoption worker!

Thanks for your encouragement! It really means a lot. Our adoption is going good and everyday is one less day. We are just taking it a day at a time.
