Only a Few Years Away...

Since I was around 13 or 14, I've been counting down the years until I'm old enough to adopt. I remember being so excited on my 15th birthday because I was finally halfway to the 30-year age requirement for China (where I've always wanted to adopt from)! Let's just say I have a tendency to look forward a little bit. So, for all of you out there marking time as well, I've compiled a short list of countries that currently let young, married couples adopt (just for fun!):
21 year olds can adopt from:
~Washington State (and probably other U.S. states as well)
~Liberia (and they'll take you there until you're 60 too!)
25 year olds can adopt from:
~Bulgaria
~Lithuania
~Ethiopia
~Korea
~Thailand
~Vietnam
~Ghana
~Albania
~Colombia
~Hong Kong
~Cambodia

So, adoption may be closer for some of us than we think! :) No, this list was totally for fun, and to keep me excited for all the future possibilities of bring needy children into my home. I guess all that's left is to finish school, keep having a few more birthdays, and find that perfect combination of Mr.Darcy/Roger Hamley (from Wives and Daughters, to you who are so unfortunately not familiar with it) who happens to also be passionate about Christ, His Kingdom, and adopting LOTS of kids! :) I better sign off before I drift too far into La La Land...

Oh my goodness!! You and I are too alike. This is so funny. I count down the years too and dream about the family I'll have. I have this vision of a family picture where there's me, my husband (still need to work on that one!), and children from all over the world.
I'm glad I'm not the only one!! :)
Praying the years go by quickly and God provides for both of us the husbands we long, dream, and pray for!

Thanks for the list! :0) My sister is getting married next year and she really wants to adopt!

Lord willing, when I get married I can adopt too! Lord willing!

Wow, I just recently was led to your site and I don't even remember exactly how, somehow through the SCC blogs. Anyway, I just recently started to look into adoption and really have a passion for it. It all started after Maria Chapman's death, It really opened my eyes for the fatherless. And yes I am only 19 now so I have a ways to go. Also I need to find "the one" , but I was just reading your blog and you said "I guess all that's left is to finish school, keep having a few more birthdays, and find that perfect man, who happens to also be passionate about Christ, His Kingdom, and adopting LOTS of kids!" That is so funny because I have to do all of the same things before I can welcome children into my home.

Hi Sharon!
It's so amazing to meet yet another young person who desires to be used by God in ministry to the fatherless! The connections this blog has given me with like-minded teens and young adults have been so inspiring and encouraging.
I'm excited to see what God will do in all of our lives throughout the next many years! May He do BIG things through us!
Thanks so much for commenting!

My "vision of a family picture" is pretty much the same as yours! :) In fact, I did a "hopes and dreams" page in my scrapbook when I was about 14, and I cut all these little pictures of babies and toddlers from all over the world out of a Bethany Christian Services magazine and glued them above a piece of paper with one of my dreams: "adopt LOTS of children". Oh, and just under it was a printed pic of a certain dashing Regency gent and the words "marry a man a lot like Mr. Darcy." :)
And now, years later, I still have the same dream. Every time I see a family with three or four different skin colors or ethnicities represented, I get all excited and say "I want to be like THEM!" :)

That would be so exciting if you and your sister could both adopt someday! I hope that many people in my family (sibs, cousins, etc.) will adopt too someday and we can just keep that vision spreading!
